Satan in charge of a city?

"What would things look like if Satan actually took over a city? The first frames in our imaginative slide show probably depict mayhem on a massive scale: Widespread violence, deviant sexualities, pornography in every vending machine, churches closed down and worshipers dragged off to City Hall. Over a half-century ago, Donald Grey Barnhouse, pastor of Philadelphia's Tenth Presbyterian Church, gave his CBS radio audience a different picture of what it would look like if Satan took control of a town in America. He said that all of the bars and pool halls would be closed, pornography banished, pristine streets and sidewalks would be occupied by tidy pedestrians who smiled at each other. I'll read the rest of the article later, but the intro definitely brings to center stage Satan's happiness at our complacency. We tend to only think of evil when it's accompanied by horrible acts. We don't see our neutralness toward God as part of that evil.

I think this is the biggest challenge facing churched kids today. We grow up knowing the right answers to the questions without even thinking about it. I mean, we attended Sunday School religiously. And, often, we are satisfied with that. But simple facts held as knowledge in our heads doesn't mean anything unless it makes an impact as truth on our hearts.

I must admit that I fight complacency myself. We should be terrified of our complacency to the gospel. Not because I said so, but because Christ said so.

Revelation 3:15-16 "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm - neither hot nor cold - I am about to spit you out of my mouth."

I am reminded of that during my lukewarm times. And I pray that the Spirit would turn my flickering flame into a massive blaze.
